It has taken 5 years to get away on another backpacking trip. When we returned from Africa we both ended up working, as the jobs found us. John got involved in a huge project that he wanted to see through and this held us up from heading away.
We visited South America in 1981 and now we are going to some of the places we didn't have time to see then. Air New Zealand now has direct flights to Buenos Aires which will take us 16 hours 55 mins according to our flight itinerary.
At this stage the only confirmed items we have are flights out of NZ, flights back in September 2016, 4 nights in a hostel in Buenos Aires, and 2 nights with a Couchsurfing family. We have been so busy we have not had time to plan any further ahead. We hope once we are on the way we can make definite plans.
This time we leave our house in our daughter's hands, with her husband to mow the lawns and our grandson to play amongst the fruit trees. We will return back to another grandchild and probably an overgrown orchard.
Time to get our American visa application done online as we will fly back on a direct flight from Houston to Auckland with Air new Zealand.
We have been in touch with some of the travel friends we have made from our last few trips and are up to date with some of the different apps we can use to get around. This is quite different from the days when we used typed guide books with hand drawn illustrations.
